Hedgehogs

14 November 2025 (by schoollogin)

Monday was a very exciting start to the week! We had a visit from the police. Police Officer Rich Johnson and Claire the Driffield PCSO, came in to talk to the children about keeping safe in the dark winter weather. They discuss reflective clothing and high visibility jackets and vests. The children also learnt about the role of a police officer and the uniform they wear and the special equipment they use. The children also got to look around the police car, we saw the flashing lights and listened to the different sirens, the children also got to sit in the police car. What a way to start the week!

In phonics this week the children have been introduced to the phonemes: v as in van, w as in waves, x as in fox and y as in   yo-yo. The children have been practising reading and spelling CVC words containing these sounds throughout the week.

In maths this week, we have been learning that numbers are composed of smaller numbers, for example 5 is made up of 0 and 5, 1 and 4 & 2 and 3. We have used the rhyme 5 Little Speckled Frogs to look at how many frogs are on the log, how many are in the pool and how many we have altogether.

Thank you to everyone for the wonderful outfits and kind donation for Children in Need. The children look absolutely amazing and they have been learning about some of the children the money will go to help.

Please don't forget to return the library slips by Monday at the latest, so we can set up all the children with a library card ready for our visit to the library on Wednesday.

Also please don't forget that next Friday is our Fairy Tale and Nursery Rhyme dress up day.

Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards

Mrs Dean and the Hedgehog Team.
