Helping with Reading
Reading is one of the most important skills our children learn and is at the heart of our curriculum. Once they become confident readers they can unlock a whole world of information and knowledge.
We place great emphasis on the teaching of reading in school, investing a great amount of money in providing exciting books and technology as well the staff to teach and support. This enables us to ensure that each child reads every day in school. Books are allocated at the right level for each child
As children become more confident with phonics and decoding the emphasis changes from how to read (technically reading ) to understanding more deeply what they are reading about (comprehension).
We can do as much as we can in school but to be really successful readers children need daily practice outside of the classroom and this is where you can help. It is a proven fact that those children who read regularly at home are the most successful.
