Badgers Class

12 September 2025 (by schoollogin)

What a brilliant first full week at school!

This week, we have been establishing routines and getting to know our new classroom. The children have enjoyed playing and exploring all of the different areas of provision.

The badgers have demonstrated great creativity this week in Art as they have each painted their own self portrait! The children looked into mirrors, identifying their facial features. What colour eyes do I have? What colour hair to I have? Is my hair long or short? The portraits are fantastic, and will be displayed on our 'Brilliant Badgers' display!

We have started our whole class phonics lessons this week. We have learned the letter sounds s,a,t,p this week, and had a go at forming each letter on their mini whiteboards, using our letter formation rhymes! We have also began orally blending. Oral blending is a foundational pre-reading skill where the child combines separate spoken sounds (spoken by the adult) to form a whole word. For example "c-a-t" forms the word cat. This is a crucial skill for young children before they learn to read written words. To build on this at home, we would appreciate practising this in your day-to-day routine.
Examples to use:
"Can you pass me the j-a-m?"
"s-i-t down please."
"Can you n-o-d your head?"

In Maths, we have explored numerous counting rhymes, and enjoyed counting up to 20!

Next Friday (19th)  the children are going on their first visit to church! We regularly visit All Saint's Church across the year for different whole school services and experiences, so we are very excited to go and have our first look round alongside our friends in Hedgehogs class.

If you ever have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Have a great weekend- I expect the children will be more than ready for a rest!
