Sports Day

What a fantastic last week of this half term!

The children have been wonderful all week and they really enjoyed sports day yesterday. Thank you for coming along to support the children in their first sports day at Driffield Infant School. I was so proud of the children and their effort and sportsmanship towards each other. They have all received a special mention in the Gold Star Book this week and stood up in Celebration Worship, so the whole school could see how amazing they are.

Daily phonics and maths activities have continued this week and we have also completed our summer term 1 phonics assessments. So if your child is a little tired, I understand why.

This week we have also been learning about Africa and the amazing animals which live there. We have read the story 'Handa's Surprise,' and discussed some of the animals of the story, including giraffes & elephants. We have also learnt about the speedy cheetah, the stripy zebra and the enormous hippopotamus. .

After the half term holiday, we will begin our final topic of the school year, which is called, 'Let's Move!' This topic is all about transport and different vehicles. It has a focus on history and how vehicles have changed over time.

Within the first three week of next half term, we will be collecting our end of year data. We will look at all of the Early Learning Goals (which we shared with you at parents' evening) and we will assess whether the children are working at the expected level or whether they are still working towards the expected level. This information will be shared with you in your child's end of year report.

If anyone would like some sentences to practise over the half term holidays, please try some of these:

He can get the bus to the shop.

Jan went to see the king and queen.

Pat had a pain in her foot.

The goats and cows went into the shed.

Jim has a pair of boots.

The frog was jumping up and down.

I hope you all have a wonderful half term holiday, a reminder that Monday 2nd June is a teacher training day, so children return to school on Tuesday 3rd June.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Kind regards

Mrs Dean & Miss Wain
