Happy New Year!
Welcome back and Happy New Year!
This half term our topic is Under the Sea. We have lots of exciting activities and events planned over the next few weeks, including a trip to The Deep in Hull.
This week, our Book of the Week has been Commotion in the Ocean by Giles Andreae. This is a lovely, rhyming book which describes many creatures which live under the sea. The children have been identifying different sea creatures and starting to learn some interesting facts about them. If you have any fascinating facts about a given sea creature, please send them into school next week.
This half term the children will continue their phonics learning. They will be introduced to a variety of vowel sounds, most of these are digraphs (2 letters making 1 sound) and some are trigraphs (3 letters making 1 sound). This week they have been introduced to 'ai' as in sail, 'ee' as in feet, 'igh' as in night and 'oa' as in goat. I have sent home the parent sheets today in your child's bookbag, so you will know which sounds we are teaching this half term. You should have also received some 'tricky words' to practise at home. If you have any questions about how to support phonics at home, please just ask.
In maths this week, we have been revising one more and one less than a number, The children have been using practical apparatus to physically add or take away one and they have also been practising their fast recall of one more and one less.
Next week we are visiting the library on Friday 17th January. Please return the East Riding library slip to school on Monday, as I have to take these to the library before our visit to ensure your child's library card will be ready for them to use.
Please remember Tuesday is PE, your child needs to come to school dressed in their PE kit. If your child has long hair, please ensure it is tied up and that earrings are removed.
This half term promises to be an exciting and action packed time!
As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Many thanks
Mrs Dean & Miss Wain (the Hedgehogs team)
