Week 1 news

The Hedgehogs have had a great first week back after the half term holiday. Everyone has been working hard and 'letting their light shine!'

This half term our theme is 'Nursery Rhymes and Well Known Tales.' This week the children have been focusing on nursery rhymes. The children have been orally rehearsing well know and new rhymes. They have been finding pairs of words which rhyme, like cat and hat, bear and chair & snake and cake. We will be continuing to work on rhyming words this week. The children will be learning/practising a new rhyme each day, starting with Humpty Dumpty on Monday.

In our daily phonics lessons the children have been introduced to the digraphs ll, ff and ss. The children have learnt that these digraphs normally come at the end of words, such as hill, mess and huff. They have also been introduced to the new phoneme 'j'. The children have been practising their blending skills in these lessons. Some children are continuing to find blending a challenging skill. So please continue to practice at home, remember practising little and often has the biggest impact.

In maths this week, the children have been investigating circles and triangles. They have been using mathematical language to describe the properties of these shapes, including talking about how many sides and corners these shapes have. On Tuesday the children went on a shape hunt around the school, identifying how many circles and triangles they could see in the every day objects around them. This is an activity you could repeat at home. I wonder what you will find?

Please don't forget about our Parliament Week competition. The children have been asked to draw a picture or make a model of a London landmark. All entries for the competition need to be in school by Wednesday (13th November). We will then display all the entries in the school hall on Monday 18th November. Please come along to view all the models and pictures and cast your vote for your favourite. The winning entries will win some London themed prizes.

Once again, thank you for all your continued support.

If you have an questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
