Hedgehogs at Elmswell Farm25 October 2024 (by schoollogin) |
What a busy last week of term, including our first visit to Elmswell Farm.
The children are all ready for a well deserved rest. What a long and busy first half term at school they have had.
I am delighted with the way the children have settled in and the progress they have made from their starting points back in September. It was so lovely to meet you all at the parent and teacher consultation meetings this week and share your child's achievements and targets for next half term. I'm sure you will agree they are working hard.
On Tuesday we enjoyed our first visit to Elmswell Farm. A highlight was certainly the tractor and trailer ride to the farm, this caused great excitement. The children went on a walk, led by Farmer John. He showed us different parts of his farm and talked to the children about the signs of autumn around the farm. The children really impressed me with their knowledge about autumn and the world around them by answering some of Farmer John's questions with some brilliant ideas. After a morning exploring the farm, we all really enjoyed lunch in the school room. We then experienced the tractor ride back to school, which was just as exciting as the first time!
This week we have learnt all about harvest and different celebrations around the world linked to food and harvest time. The children have thought about different people we could say thank you to and all the different jobs linked to the food industry. These included farmers, lorry drivers, factory and shop workers. On Thursday morning, the whole school walked to the church for our Harvest Festival. We would just like to say a huge 'thank you' for all your generous donations to the Driffield Food Bank.
Have a good rest next week and we will see you back at school on Monday 4th November.
