Week 7 News

What a lot we have covered this week!

The children have been learning all about what contributes to a healthy lifestyle. They have sorted foods into groups, identifying the healthy foods, which we should eat lots of and the not so healthy foods, which we should only eat as a treat. The children tasted apples, grapes, mango, pineapple, bananas and strawberries. The children recorded which fruits they liked and which they didn't. The children have also learnt about the importance and keeping clean, they have learnt why we brush our teeth and how often we should clean them. We have discussed germs and the importance of washing our hands before we eat and after using the toilet. Today we learnt about exercise and all the different things we can do to make our heart and bodies strong. Tomorrow we will focus on rest and sleep and how important they are, particularly to children.

The children have been learning more about the season of autumn. They have discussed the changing weather and what happens to trees in autumn. They have also learnt that some birds migrate and some animals hibernate to avoid the colder weather.

We have continued with our daily phonics lessons, this week has been a revision week. The children have completed one to one phonics assessments with their teacher to identify any gaps in their phonic knowledge before we move on next half term.

In maths this week, the children have been representing 1, 2 and 3 in a variety of ways. They have matched pictures, actions and sounds to numerals and made collections of 1, 2 or 3 objects. The children have also been practising subitising (saying how many objects they can see without counting them).

The children have also been investigating different emotions, including happy, sad, excited, scared and angry. Today the children used playdough to make faces showing these different emotions. We also talked about what makes us feel these different emotions.

I am looking forward to speaking to you all at the parent/teacher consultations next week, on either Monday or Wednesday. You should have all received a slip of paper with your appointment time, if anyone is unsure, please just ask.

Next week we also have our visit to Elmswell Farm on Tuesday 22nd October. Please make sure your child has a pair of wellington boots and a waterproof coat with them on this day.

Next Thursday, we will conclude our harvest celebrations with a whole school Harvest Festival at the church. Thank you to everyone who has donated food and toiletries to our harvest collection, it is greatly appreciated.
